Monsoon Forecast

We’re just a few weeks into the Monsoon, but many of you have already seen storms in your area. But just how much rain do we expect this summer? And what about those temperatures? Get this year’s Monsoon Outlook from the Flood Control District. Fight the Bite! It’s hot. It’s humid. It’s mosquito season!  The best thing you can to do prevent mosquitoes from breeding is to remove standing water. Our Environmental Services team provides these tips:  Empty, drain, or cover anything that holds water.  Mow your lawn weekly. Mosquitoes tend to sit in tall grass to rest and hide.  For more tips, and the mosquito fogging schedule, visit our Fight the Bite website.

COVID Update – What is the Delta Variant?
There is new evidence that the more-contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 is spreading in Maricopa County. The variant represented about 20% of sequenced cases during the month of June and Public Health expects that number to increase. Read below to learn more
about the variant and see the best ways to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community.
The Delta variant is a strain of COVID-19 that is more contagious than other strains of COVID-19. This means it spreads from person-to-person more easily, especially if a person is not vaccinated.
As of July 2021, the Delta variant has become the “dominant variant” in the United States, which means that most of the new COVID-19 cases that are being analyzed are caused by the Delta variant.
The amount of Delta variant is increasing in Maricopa County and will likely become the dominant variant.
How Is The Delta Variant Different From Other COVID-19 Strains?
Based on what we know, the Delta variant is spread more easily from person-to-person.
There is also some evidence that the illness caused by the Delta variant may be more severe, particularly in younger people, but there is still a lot to learn about this variant.
