Message From Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee 💼
📈 Celebrating Financial Literacy, Community Engagement & Education Savings
April was Financial Literacy Month, and I had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate by visiting 5th graders at Junior Achievement of Arizona BizTown. It was inspiring to connect with students eager to learn how to manage money in the real world. I shared tips on being responsible stewards of their earnings and was encouraged by their enthusiasm to apply financial lessons to their lives. Teaching our youth personal money management skills helps set them on a path toward a healthy financial future.
🇺🇸 Historic Visit to the Navajo Nation
Last month, I was honored to visit Window Rock, Arizona, the capital of the Navajo Nation, and make history as the first Arizona State Treasurer to formally address the full membership of the 25th Navajo Nation Council in my official capacity.
While there, I also visited the Fort Defiance Senior Center, sharing financial tips and resources like the AZ529 Education Savings Plan with local seniors. At the Navajo Arts and Crafts Post, I met with CEO JT Willie and other local business leaders to celebrate and support Navajo small businesses that contribute to the region’s economic vitality.
🎓 AZ529 Day — May 29
This month, my office proudly recognizes May 29 as National 529 Day, a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about the benefits of saving for future education through an AZ529 Education Savings Plan.
I’m thrilled to share that since my office began administering the plan in 2020, 54,178 new savings accounts have been opened—averaging one per day over 54 months! These accounts give families across Arizona a head start in preparing for higher education.
🎉 This 5/29 Day, we’ll be surprising a newborn baby born on May 29 with a new AZ529 Plan, helping one lucky family begin their savings journey from day one.
