Message From Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee

Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee in a red blazer, smiling confidently in front of the Arizona State Treasurer seal and American flag.
Kimberly Yee, Arizona State Treasurer, poses in a red blazer with the official seal and U.S. flag in the background.

Greetings Biltmore Area Partnership Members,

In February, Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee had the honor of addressing the Arizona graduates of TeenPact. During her speech, Treasurer Yee shared the importance of civic engagement and urged the graduates to remain active participants in their communities.

Additionally, Treasurer Kimberly Yee met with representatives from Fidelity, one of the primary providers of the AZ529 Education Savings Plan. For the AZ529 program, since October 2020—after 64 months of operation—AZ529 accounts have increased by 67,588 new accounts, and assets are up 81.3% in that same time frame to $2.94 billion. The AZ529 Education Savings Plan has been nationally recognized and named among the Best 529 Plans of 2026 by Forbes.

Treasurer Yee also hosted the Future Career Art Contest by recognizing 19 art contest winners, each of whom received a $529 contribution toward an AZ529 Education Savings Plan. The K–6th grade winners represent district, charter, private, tribal, and homeschool students from all of Arizona’s 15 counties. Through these initiatives, Treasurer Yee continues to promote educational savings and community involvement for a brighter future.

As always, if you or your organization require my office’s assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at (602) 542-7800 or aztreasury.gov/contact.

Sincerely,
Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee

Mind Over Music

I had the pleasure of joining the extremely sharp students of Monte Vista Elementary School in their Mind Over Music lesson.

Mind Over Music pairs the Phoenix Symphony musicians with classroom teachers to alter ordinary lessons into hands-on experiences. Instead of treating music as an add-on, the program uses it as a creative way for students to explore math, science, language arts, and more.

What makes it so impactful is the way it blends artistic abilities with academic goals, helping students build critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in ways that feel fun and memorable. It’s a program that helps students see themselves as capable, creative, and confident learners.

Thank you to the students, teachers, and musicians for educating me on the program and giving me an opportunity to learn as well.

Chef Charleen Badman, featured in Visit Phoenix’s Sonoran Food Guide segment highlighting local Sphinx dates and Sonoran cuisine.

For James Beard Award–winning chef Charleen Badman, chef-owner of FnB in Old Town Scottsdale, the Sphinx Date is more than just a fruit — it’s a distinctive, locally grown delicacy that carries the flavors and roots of Phoenix’s history.

Originally discovered in Arizona in the 1920s, the Sphinx Date has long been tied to Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood, where it has grown for more than eight decades. Chef Badman honors that heritage by partnering with a local Arcadia grower.

In this episode of Visit Phoenix’s Sonoran Food Guide, Chef Badman explores how the Sphinx Date embodies the resilience of Phoenix’s Sonoran Desert — a fruit that flourishes in the desert heat. Grown just a few miles from FnB, the farm-to-table restaurant is one of the only places in the city where guests can experience this unique variety.
