🎁 This December, Charity Begins at Home for the Biltmore Area Partnership
By Will McEachern, BAP Community Liaison
The Biltmore Area Partnership (BAP) will host a Holiday Happy Hour from 4pm to 6pm on December 9th at AXIOM Gallery in the Biltmore Fashion Park. Incorporated as a nonprofit in May 1994, the BAP was founded by civic and business leaders, including theater mogul Dan Harkins and restaurateur Paul Fleming, who would go on to create P.F. Chang’s and Fleming’s Steakhouse. The BAP continues to play an important role in shaping the Biltmore area, which is the financial center of the state and home to over 40,000 residents.
The BAP may be over three decades old, but each year presents new challenges and opportunities for our Biltmore neighborhoods. For example, BAP monthly luncheons enrich the community with speakers such as the mayor, the police chief, the state treasurer, city council members, county commissioners, and business and nonprofit leaders. The BAP has hosted a candidate forum for the mayor and for the city council. The BAP also sponsors picnics of gratitude and appreciation for our police officers.
At times, the BAP becomes the squeaky wheel, prompting the city to repair an uneven sidewalk, seal a leaky pipe, cut back overgrown trees, replace a downed streetlight, or breathe new life into a barren center strip. And the BAP supported construction of the Camelback pedestrian underpass, a beautiful structure that won four national awards for engineering and construction excellence. Most of us now take our underpass for granted, but it has contributed much to our convenience and to our safety.
Each December, the BAP identifies a local charity for member contributions. This December, the BAP has chosen the Biltmore Area Partnership Foundation as the designated charity. The BAP Foundation is the BAP’s sister organization which is able to accept tax-deductible contributions to support the BAP’s goals.
After years of supporting other charities, why is the BAP Board of Directors seeking contributions for the BAP Foundation? The simple answer is “inflation.” The cost of everything, especially putting on the luncheons, has increased. As it is, the BAP often loses money on luncheons, and periodically seeks contributions from the Foundation to operations. So this year, charity begins at home for the BAP.
The December Happy Hour will be catered by POMO. The cost is $50 for BAP members. For Happy Hour tickets and to learn more about BAP gatherings and activities, go to biltmoreareapartnership.com or contact Executive Director Linda Rossi at azbapphx@aol.com or at (480) 368-0974. Hope to see you in December.

Message From Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee

Dear Members of the Biltmore Area Partnership,
This month, my office proudly celebrated National Adoption Month by honoring a local adoptive family with a contribution of $529 toward an AZ529 Education Savings Plan. In partnership with Hope & A Future, this gift will help support Zoey, who is 12 years old, and her academic journey while spotlighting the importance of investing in Arizona’s youth.

I also had the pleasure of speaking with the Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce, where I shared insights into the many functions of the Treasurer’s Office and provided an update on the Treasury’s investment performance.

Additionally, we recognized 20 winners of our statewide essay contest, each receiving $529 toward an AZ529 Education Savings Plan. These talented 5th and 6th graders represent district, charter, private, tribal, and homeschool communities from all 15 Arizona counties.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to strengthen opportunities for Arizona families and students.
As always, if you or your organization require my office’s assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at (602) 542-7800 or aztreasury.gov/contact.
Sincerely,
Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee
