Message From Councilman Kevin Robinson

As someone with over 36 years of law enforcement experience, I always am looking out for the future of our Phoenix Police Department. Currently, the Phoenix Police Department is below its authorized number of police officers. This is not a place we want to be, especially as the nation’s 5th largest city.

So, the question begs to be asked, what can be done to bridge this gap and attract more qualified women and men to the Phoenix Police Department?

To me, the answer is simple, educate people about the opportunities that a career with the Phoenix Police Department offers. There are a multitude of assignments within the police department that would satisfy anyone’s quest for personal fulfillment, and most importantly, service to others and community.

I would encourage people to explore the police department website, joinphxpd.com It only takes a few minutes to see that you could have a rewarding career filled with a variety of opportunities!

What type of person makes a good police officer – a good person, someone who wants to be a part of a great time and have an exciting career, one that offers the challenge to help people and keep our communities safe.  A good person, willing to learn, someone that cares about helping others, all the while, improving our community.  Good people can be trained to be good police officers – that’s what we need, good people looking to be a part of a positive impact in the City of Phoenix.

Thank you,

Kevin Robinson, City of Phoenix Councilman, District 6

Civilian Review Board – Now Accepting Applications

The City is now accepting applications for community members to serve on the Civilian Review Board (CRB).  The Civilian Review Board shall review, discuss and approve monitoring reports issued by the Office of Accountability and Transparency; review and discuss OAT policy recommendations to the Phoenix Police Department; and review complaints and ensure notification to complainants of the status and disposition of their complaints against Phoenix police officers. The Board shall review and discuss completed OAT monitoring reports, the Phoenix Police Department’s responses to those reports, and make one of the following findings with respect to OAT’s recommendations and determinations of thoroughness and completeness: Adopt, Adopt with Revisions, Decline, Decline with Revisions, or Request Additional Information.

Individuals interested in serving on the CRB should apply online at https://boards.phoenix.gov/Home/BoardsDetail/83.  Applications are due August 16, 2024.

Message From Arizona State Treasurer

Greetings Biltmore Area Partnership Members,

I hope your families had a wonderful summer break as the “Back to School” season begins!

My investment team at the Arizona State Treasurer’s Office continues to produce record-setting results while wisely investing our taxpayer dollars, always taking into consideration Safety, before Liquidity, before Yield. For Fiscal Year 2024, we distributed a record-high of over $1.5 billion in earnings, which includes $335.9 million for our participants in our Local Government Investment Pool, $715.9 million for State Agencies and $456.1 million for the Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund (PLETF).

I am also proud to report that the PLETF had a record-high month-end market value of $8.67 billion in June, which is an increase of more than 50% since I took office. In fact, the 10-year annualized returns of the PLETF have outperformed the national average U.S. college and university endowments for 10 years in a row! These distributions positively impact our local communities by supporting 13 beneficiaries, including Arizona K-12 schools, universities, and hospitals.

The AZ529, Arizona’s Education Savings Plan, continues to help more families save and plan for their children’s future education. Since my office began administering the AZ529 Plan in October 2020, we have seen 43,483 new accounts opened and assets up 43.2% to $2.32 billion in that same time frame, which is a new record-high.

In July, I announced the 10 winners of our second annual “My Picture-Perfect Career” Photo Contest during an awards ceremony at the Arizona State Capitol. The winners represent K-12th grade students from district, charter, private schools and homeshools from across seven Arizona counties. Each winner received $529 towards a new or existing AZ529 Education Savings Plan. A group of children holding a check

I am always looking to help more students save for their education and prepare for their future careers, so look for our AZ529 essay contest this fall and an art contest in the spring.

I am thankful for your continued support and contributions to our community. If you or your organization require my Office’s assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at (602) 542-7800 or aztreasury.gov/contact

Sincerely,

Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee

Adobe Bar & Grille’s New Executive Chef: The Adobe Bar & Grille recently welcomed Jacob Ellis as Executive Chef. Chef Jacob has 18-plus years of culinary arts, restaurant management, and guest service experience working at popular restaurants, resorts and golf clubs. He most recently served in dual roles as executive chef and food & beverage director at Rancho De Los Caballeros in Wickenburg, Ariz., where he spearheaded the opening of 19, a new fine-dining experience at the historic resort. Early in his career, Ellis studied under Celebrity Chef Beau MacMillan at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, before moving on to lead the culinary operations at several high-end establishments, including Top of the Rock in Tempe, Ariz., the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., and Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla.

Book Golf Simulator on OpenTable: Reservations for the Golf Simulator can now be made on OpenTable or by calling 602-468-9160. Located adjacent to The Pantry, the simulator can be rented by the hour and enjoyed by guests and Club Members. Golfers can choose to play over 200 championship courses on the simulator, including Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black, Pinehurst and St. Andrews, or choose from a dozen golf-themed games.

Golf Course Summer Maintenance Schedule Update: With hotter temperatures and the establishment of warm season grasses, comes the need for aerification of our golf courses, including tees, greens, fairways and roughs on both the Links and Estates courses. The Links Course reopened from aerification on July 15th and as a result turf health is improving during these hot summer months.  The Estates Course is now closed for the same aerification process and will remain closed through August 25. The extended period of closure will allow crews to complete additional work on the course, including improving tee box alignment on a few holes, planting more plants, and working on overall turf health in a few areas of the course.

Practice Range Closed: Summer improvements commenced on June 3rd with the closure of the Practice Range for a grassing project.  Crews have sprigged/grassed the range with the same TifTuf Bermuda grass used on the golf course.  It generally takes 90 days for this type of grass to grow in properly, therefore the Practice Range will be closed throughout the summer. We expect to re-open by Labor Day weekend.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

The Pantry: Coffee, teas, scones, muffins, sandwiches, ice cream and more, The Pantry is the perfect place to stop to satisfy your hunger or quench your thirst. The new grab-and-go market located in the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club clubhouse has quickly become The Biltmore community’s new gathering spot.

From Small Meetings to Large Weddings, Meetings and Events: The spectacular new clubhouse at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club can accommodate a variety of meetings and events – from a small luncheon or meeting in The Gallery, to a larger wedding or event in the 6,000 sq. ft. Ballroom. The Ballroom features a state-of-the-art sound system and visual displays, and can be split into two rooms for smaller, more intimate gatherings. For more information on holding your next event at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club, contact Catering Sales Manager Sally Mackesy at smackesy@jdmgolf.com

It’s a celebration of heritage, community, and the land that sustains it all.

Our menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients from small farms and regional producers, showcasing the authentic flavors of the Southwestern region without unnecessary culinary pretense. The restaurant’s ambiance reflects its ethos, merging rustic charm with contemporary elegance. Warm earth tones, natural materials, and local artwork create an inviting space where guests can savor bold flavors and unwind after a day of exploring or attending meetings in the Arizona heat.

ABOUT THE HERMOSA INN, LON’S & LON’S LAST DROP

The Hermosa Inn was named Arizona’s #1 Resort Hotel in Travel + Leisure’s  World’s Best Awards 2023 and ranked among the 500 best hotels worldwide in the publication’s 2023 and 2024 T+L 500 lists in addition to being voted the #2 Hotel in the Southwest & West in the Condé Nast Traveler’s 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards. This AAA Four Diamond jewel of a hideaway, featuring 43 luxurious casitas, is nestled in an exclusive neighborhood in Paradise Valley, just minutes from Scottsdale and its many attractions.

Handcrafted in the 1930s by cowboy artist Lon Megargee as his residence and art studio, the Inn’s adobe architecture has maintained its authentic Arizona character and charm, which was instrumental in winning the  2019 and 2020 Stella Awards, the seal of excellence in the meetings industry, for Best Boutique Hotel in the Southwest Region. The 43 luxury guest casitas are nestled in a garden setting with breathtaking vistas of the lush desert and Camelback Mountain. Accommodations reflect the southwestern design of the original Casa Hermosa (beautiful house) and most include deep soaking tubs, beehive fireplaces and private patios, which have been praised in the 2019 TripSavvy Editors’ Choice Award for Romance and featured in the Hideaway Report, the highly curated site for exceptional experiences around the globe.

The culinary centerpiece is LON’s at the Hermosa, a AAA Four Diamond restaurant honored by Food & Wine magazine as Arizona’s Most Romantic Restaurant, serving globally inspired Arizona fare. As one of Arizona’s premier restaurants, LON’s has repeatedly been lauded as one of the Top 100 Brunch Restaurants in America, 100 Most Popular Restaurants for Outdoor Dining, 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in the United States, and 50 Most Beautiful Restaurants in America by OpenTable. A recipient of Wine Spectator’s ‘Best of Award of Excellence’ since 2015, the restaurant is complemented by a subterranean wine cellar, a celebrated outdoor dining patio, and its bar and casual dining counterpart, LON’s Last Drop, named after one of Megargee’s iconic paintings, many of which are displayed throughout the resort.
